North American Karting Standards (NAKS)
2003 TAG (Touch and Go) Class
Issue 2.1 February 2003
(A downloadable/printer-friendly version of these engine specifications can be found at bottom of this page.)
1.0 Introduction
For the 2003 year the TAG Class is an experimental class
designed to test the competition level of that variety of new 125cc 2 strokes
and 250cc 4 stroke fixed gear motors with on-board starting systems. As these
motors are being introduced to the racing franchises in
Europe, the imports to the US are growing quickly also. Similar to the Rotax in
design and lap times, they depart from the Rotax competition intent
significantly. These standards should to serve as a baseline of rules through
the 2003 year in North America and are open to any club or organization to
follow. This class is not intended to replace the Rotax Class but will
allow the Rotax motors to compete.
As an experimental class new motors may be added through
the year for eligibility. Be sure to understand this will not guarantee new
motor 'C' will not be significantly faster then earlier motor 'B'.
At year's
end, a review of the various motors may lead to some competition revisions, and adoption of these rules by any other national karting promoter/organization.
TCM Racing has established the
TAG USATM Series, and has done substantial research to achieve parity among 7 main
motor configurations that are currently available for the series. To avoid
multiple rules Issue 2 of the TAG Standards has been restructured and aligned
with TAG USATM.
Technical Specs on the motors are included.
